In 2013, out of absolute necessity for many of our clientele for whom we do asset protection planning and with the regulatory environment changing regarding physician liability, TAC Diagnostics, a division of The Advisory Co, LLC, was created.  The program developed is a totally compliant urine drug testing system that is also legally admissible to assist clientele in minimizing professional liability.

As a part of the evaluation and treatment process for patients who have surgery, sustained injuries or complain of chronic pain, it is often necessary to provide medication management and/or regulation of the patient’s current medication regimen.  The treatment of an individual with an injury and/or experiencing pain often requires the judicious use of medications to help control the patient’s pain.

The medications can include non-addictive medications such as acetaminophen and anti-inflammatory medication ranging to controlled substances (CS) such as morphine and Fentanyl, which can carry significant risk of addiction.  There are also potential significant treatment issues in individuals regarding the use of illicit substances, alcohol and other prescription medications.

If the practitioner determines in his or her professional judgment, after considering each of the forgoing factors, that the CS is medically necessary and appropriate, the practitioner may prescribe.

TAC Diagnostics performs random drug screening tests with follow up definitive testing performed by a toxicology lab.  This testing determines if the CS is found in the patient’s system and what quantities are found and if any other substances are found.  The preliminary screening is used to determine if there are any illicit drugs found and if the drug class prescribed is found.  Unfortunately, the preliminary testing simply determines the absence or presence of a certain class of drugs.  Our process identifies and quantifies the specific drug or metabolite present for a broad range of medications and illicit drugs.  If any positives are detected in the quantitative study, further analysis is performed.
